Even if there is no support out of the box, there are definitely alternatives and I will tell you about them. However, this is never the end of the story for us, makers, we love a good challenge. Unfortunately, there is no connectivity out of the box for these kinds of systems. If you have been following the blog for some time you will probably know that I am a big advocate for Open Source Home Automation Systems, like openHAB or Home Assistant. Unfortunately, they are not compatible with open-source Home automation systems, at least AS-IS. Out of the box, these devices are compatible with the SmartLife App, Alexa, Google Home and IFTTT. They have other switches as well, but the mechanical one is more responsive than the others and feels more natural. I have tested several products but my favorite ones are the smart dimmer (very good looking) and the mechanical switch. They are a US based company that distributes smart devices that use the Tuya Firmware.

They were very confident in their product and ready to answer every question that I would throw at them.

PANDA WIRELESS PAU05 DEBIAN HOW TO
If you are looking to get some Smart Switches or want to know how to connect openHAB and Tuya stick around.įirst of all, I would like to thank the guys at SmartHomeProducts for providing the samples for testing. On this tutorial, I have compiled and explained a couple of ways you can get openHAB to work with smart switches from SmartHomeProducts or any devices that use the Tuya firmware. They work great but unfortunately, they aren’t compatible out of the box with openHAB. Recently, I got the opportunity to test some devices from SmartHomeProducts, some smart switches among them. In addition to this, most of the options aren’t very affordable. This is a lousy site, but you can download drivers, if you can determine which one you need.Smart Switches are pretty much a must-have on any home automation project but surprisingly, the market isn’t flooded with these type of devices yet.

The tiny user manual supplied does not mention Linux or Mac. If you want plug and play, this is not for you. I am starting with the wikipedia article on MAKE (Software).
PANDA WIRELESS PAU05 DEBIAN DRIVER
I am no bithead, but I un-tarred the file and opened the readme, which seems to give some reasonable instructions on how to MAKE the driver from the source code files provided. I guess this means this is a Ralink rt3070 chipset, using the rt2870 driver?įor Linux, on the supplied driver disk is fileĭPO_RT3X7X_LinuxSTA_V2.3.0.4_2. In device manager the driver is listed as rt2870.sys version "3." by Ralink Technology, and shows two hardware ids: USB\Vid_148f&Pid_3070&REV_0101 and USB\Vid_148f&Pid_3070

I had to run the install program from the disk - Windows did not automatically detect and install. To test, I installed it in a Windows Vista machine. No "plug and play" as reported in Amazon reviews. I hope this answers some questions and saves some heartache. I purchased the Panda Wifi (b/g/n) 150Mbps Wireless-N (802.11n) USB Adapter from Amazon this week. Right after I set the response email, I got the unit to work, so I can't tell you anything more about the support, but FYI the lsusb returned - Bus 001 Device 002: ID 148f:3070 Ralink Technology, Corp. Before got the unit working, I sent them strongly worded email and got a prompt and professional response asking for basic troubleshooting information (is the led blinking, run lsusb and ifconfig and forward output to support. This seems to indicate that this unit is plug and play.Ģ) As part of the Amazon sale, I received and email from Panda with an email address for tech support. Two things:ġ) I tried the Panda again this morning, and it works fine.
